Okay, I admit that I’ve not been the most faithful servant of God lately. I’ll even admit that I’ve downright been slacking when it comes to my religious faith. But, I know when I hear something that “Just ain’t right”, and what this British priest has advised his congregation fits right in there. According to this news story, Rev. Tim Jones, an Anglican priest, told his congregation that shoplifting was preferable to burglary or other crimes. According to the article, Jones was giving a sermon on the birth of Christ when he began to speak about the poor and their woes during this Christmas season. He then shocked his congregation by stating that his advise, as a Christian priest to them, was that they should shoplift.
Now again, my less than faithfulness to the church aside, I do believe that the 8th commandment is still in the bible. But wait, Rev Jones stated that those who shoplift would not be violating the 8th commandment because it is “permissible for those who are in desperate situations to take food that they might not starve” Really? Permissible by whom? Last time I checked, it is still illegal to shoplift (aka steal), and it is still considered a sin by all of Christianity, and most other religions for that matter.
You gotta love the way some people place themselves above the laws of nations, and now even God, in order to justify doing wrong. All I can say, as a Christian believer, is Wow…
Oh, and btw, it’s good to be back.
