Two police officers were charged, along with two others, in a shoplifting scheme in New York yesterday. According to news reports, the officers were involved in a major shoplifting operation that involved stealing merchandise from Walmart and then selling the stolen merchandise on eBay.
Kevin Burchell, a village of Tuxedo police officer, was arrested and charged with two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and two counts of filing a false income tax return.
Clifford Barber III, a town of Montgomery police officer, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, three counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, and three counts of filing a false income tax return.
Apparently, this investigation involved investigators from the local District Attorney’s office, Walmart Investigators, and police from several jurisdictions.
