I was directed to steal the items she chose and if caught, was supposed to tell them it was all my idea. My mother would then act very angry at me upon "discovering" that I stole while she shopped in a different part of the store. If the store decided to prosecute it, she said that it wouldn't be as bad for me because I was only a child. I remember following the script to the tee when caught but never felt so alone as the cuffed me and took me to juvenile hall all the while my mom was saying to the cops that I "deserved it."
