Loss Prevention Is Not Sales Prevention

Here we have another incident where an employee is injured by a shoplifter and/or accomplice. This story is out of Columbia, TN. Apparently, Charles Kelley hit 60-year-old Anthony Young in the head, and then kicked him. As if that wasn’t enough, Kelley’s getaway driver, William Ragsdale, ran over Young’s arm while fleeing the scene.

You can read all of the details below. But while you are reading, consider this:

Where, in this story, is there any mention of either of these two idiots is charged with any kind of assault, battery, aggravated assault, vehicular assault, etc.? You guessed it, there isn’t any mention of any such charges. The story reports that Ragsdale was charged with leaving the scene without giving aid, and Kelley is wanted for Shoplifting.

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture? So, are we saying to shoplifters everywhere that, if you are approached, fight and flee, because you will only be charged with the shoplifting? I sure hope there are charges still pending in this case.

COLUMBIA, Tenn. Jan 2 2008 – Columbia police are investigating an assault at a Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store Wednesday morning.
Police said a shoplifter was leaving the store when an employee confronted him.
Columbia police said Charles Kelley hit 60-year-old Anthony Young in the head and kicked him. Young, who wears a pacemaker, required treatment at Maury Regional Hospital.
Young followed Kelley out of the store because he suspected him of shoplifting.
Young rolled underneath a car for safety.
Kelley fled in a getaway car driven by William Michael Ragsdale, 32. Ragsdale drove over Young’s arm as he left the parking lot.
There was no word whether police have a shoplifting suspect in custody.
Police arrested Ragsdale and charged him with leaving the scene without giving aid to an injured person.
Police issued warrants for Kelley for allegedly shoplifting.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ragsdale posted bond, which his mother co-signed.

Update On Cheryl Greene, Employee Injured By Fleeing Shoplifters

I Just wanted to share what information I can give about Cheryl. Her husband Matt said that she has been taken off all of her Medicines to see if she can make it on her own. Yesterday they ran Cat Scans on her brain but we have yet to hear the results. They put a stint in her leg to help prevent blood clots from going to her heart. Later tonight or tomorrow morning they will be putting in a Tracheotomy tube to replace the vent that she has since Christmas Morning. She is having some involuntary movement but she still has not opened her eyes nor responding to pain like they have hoped. Please continue to pray for her and her Family ~ This is going to be a long Hard road for her and for her family. She is not out of the woods yet.

NOTE: I’ve re-written this several times, trying to find the right words, but none came. I think the update speaks for itself. The media will move on, I’m sure, but I’ll continue to post any and all updates I can get here because this is an important issue, and Cheryl still needs our prayers.
